Dates shift a little each year. The shape does not.

Nov – Jan

Entrance registrations open. JEE Main session one, CUET notification, NEET application. This is the window students miss most often.

Feb – Apr

Board exams, then entrance exams. Nothing can be fixed here — the preparation either happened or it did not.

May – Aug

Results, then counselling. REAP rounds, state and central counselling, direct admissions. Decisions get made in days, not weeks.

State counselling

In Rajasthan, REAP allots most engineering seats in affiliated private colleges by rank, through a central portal. You register, fill choices, and get allotted. No college application, no negotiation.

  • Decided purely by rank and choice order
  • Choice filling is where families make expensive mistakes
  • Later rounds open seats that looked gone in round one

Direct and management quota

Private universities outside the state process admit directly, and affiliated colleges hold a management quota. Higher fees, different timing, and far more variation in what you actually get.

  • Ask what the fee covers before anyone asks for a deposit
  • Verify recognition — UGC, AICTE, and the specific programme
  • Never pay a deposit to an intermediary, only to the institution
